RULE BOOK

Article 1.

The World Olympiad of Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection is a competition for students aged 12 – 19 years old.      The World Olympiad of Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection is an individual competition                                                                                                                   

Article 2.

According to age, the Olympiad is held in two categories:

1.  Juniors – age 12 – 15 years old

2.  Seniors – age 16 – 19 years old

Article 3.

Students who are proposed by the coordinator of the country can participate in the Olympiad. Or an individual student application, which is approved by the organizer of the Olympiad.

A maximum of two students can solve one problem (topic), abstract and presentation at the Olympiad.

Article 4.

The organizer determines three topics (problems) separately for two age categories.

Article 5.

Students choose one of the three topics (problems) offered in their age category to research.

Based on the research (case study), students prepare an abstract (maximum two pages of A4 format) according to the instructions for writing an abstract.

The abstract is mandatory for all Olympiad participants.

The abstract is submitted to the Olympiad organizers exclusively in PDF format, by the date specified by the organizer.

Article 6.

The abstract is submitted to the organizer in PDF format at least 15 days before the start of the Olympiad.

Article 7.

The Olympiad competition consists of two segments:                                                                                                                 Multimedia quiz                                                                                                                                            Students’ presentation of their research on a selected topic.

Article 8.

Тhe multimedia test consists of 30 to 40 items (1 – 2 minutes per item, depending on the complexity of the source material)

Which require current and applied knowledge and skills;

-Each item consists of a picture, movie, map, graph and short question.

– The question is multiple choice with 4 answer options

– The test will cover all 13 topics from Article 9 of this Rulebook.

In the multimedia test, the questions asked require basic thinking skills, where the contestants analyze the information obtained through maps, diagrams and photographs. Such a multimedia test is not intended to test the contestants’ ability to reproduce facts, but rather to test their analytical skills.

Areas represented in the Multimedia tests:

• Basic terms and definitions;

• Sustainable development strategies;

• Climate changes and their impact;

• Rational use of materials and energy;

• Alternative sources of energy;

• Technologies and sustainable development;

• Responsible behavior for sustainable development;

• Endangered plant and animal species;

• Preservation and protection of human health, diversity and ecosystem quality;

• Preservation of the gene pool of animal and plant species;

• Preservation of soil fertility;

• Preservation of natural and spatial values;

• Preservation of cultural heritage and goods;

• Provision of conditions for limited, reasonable and sustainable management of living and non-living nature;

• Preservation of ecological stability of nature, quantity and quality of natural resources

• Prevention of dangers and risks to the environment.

Article 9.

For the Olympiad competition, it is necessary for students to prepare a PPT presentation, to defend their research in front of a committee that evaluates their abstract and presentation.

Article 10.

Students present their research on a selected topic before an expert jury.

The length of the oral presentation is 7 minutes. After the presentation, the jury members ask questions related to the presentation and the topic.

The number of slides for a PPT presentation is not limited, but it must fit in with the time for the presentation.

Article 11.

Ranking:

1. Special success in the Multimedia Quiz

2. Special for the presentation

Article 12.

The most successful in the quiz receive diplomas.

The fund is 60% of all participants.

The best rated presentations receive medals and diplomas.

Article 13.

Presentation scoring parameters:

Understanding and knowledge of the problem (theme)

Coverage of broad aspects of the problem

A concrete proposal of a personal solution to overcome the problem

Technical correctness of writing the abstract according to the instructions,

Presentation quality (eloquence, performance, etc.)

Article 14.

The organizer awards Certificates to all Team Leaders and registered mentors who are not present.
